I once thought I broke my iPod and it was like the saddest day of my life... then I found it just had a dead battery and I rejoiced.
If you would like help fixing your iPod I would be more than happy to help you, and trust me, whatever is wrong can probably be fixed much cheaper than buying a new one. www.ifixit.com has lots of resources for fixing iPods.
